Archive Article – Vlog Of The Week: “getbookish”

First published 18/03/12

Hi everyone, I hope that you’re all having a lovely weekend and for those of you who are mothers in the UK, Happy Mother’s Day.

This week’s Vlog Of The Week shout out is for a relative newcomer to the Booktuber community hosted not by one presenter… but two, so you’re in for double the treat this week.

The “Getbookish” channel is hosted by Becks and Les and is a perfect example how the Booktuber community is innovative in the way people collaborate with ideas by having two presenters in two different countries.

Becks basically stumbled across the BookTuber community in early February and was immediately taken by how exciting and cool it was. She had been looking for an something to participate in with the online community and thought this would be perfect. She noticed that Les had recently posted a video online and she approached her to make the channel which now exists. Beyond this, it was also a way for Becks and Les to stay connected due to the fact that they are studying in two different countries.

Becks’s reading genres of choice are contemporary, historical and YA fiction along with non-fiction and her favourite literary characters are Ginny Weasley from a little known series of books about a boy wizard… Harry somebody or other, Gemma from The Gemma Doyle Trilogy and Finnick from “The Hunger Games” (how’s that for topical).

Les first came to vlogging as a way to keep her family informed of her well-being whilst being away at university. When Becks came to her with the idea for creating a book vlog, Les became eager to take part with the vlog as books are crucial to her life and she feels that she wouldn’t be who she is without them. In addition to this, as she already had a little experience vlogging, Les felt that this project would not only be fun, but also easy to participate in.

Les’s genres of choice are YA, historical and contemporary fiction along with biographies and political satire.  Her favourite literary characters are Trixie and Mart Belden from the Trixie Belden mystery series, Helena from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, Mia Thermopolis from “The Princess Diaries” and Hermione from that little know series of books about the boy wizard.

If you’d like to watch more videos from the “Getbookish” channel, follow the link here and there is a partnering Twitter account which can be found here.

In addition to this, Becks and Les have Goodreads accounts.

As always, if you have a book or film related channel and you’d like a shout out, please feel free to get in touch either on my Goodreads account, my YouTube page or through Twitter.

Happy Reading!!!
